Exploitation of “Guest Workers” by Bush Administration

The information below was taken directly from the Southern Poverty Law Center web site.  (www.splcenter.org/) It appears to be some little known facts regarding the exploitation of “guest workers”.  Links are provided for further reading.  Again…it was a reminder of how grateful we are that there is a new administration leading our nation. 

 

I must say that a recent skit on “Saturday Night Live” saying that President Bush “broke the world” seems closer to truth than fiction.  This appears to be, yet, another of his “Mission Accomplished” moments.

Court Ruling Against Guestworkers Highlights Need for Reform

 

 

The Bush administration’s new H-2B regulations, which took effect Jan. 18, erode worker protections and make it easier for U.S. businesses to bring in guestworkers.

 

Instead of reforming the guestworker program, the Bush administration has given more tools to employers who are shopping for the most exploitable workforce,” said Mary Bauer, director of the SPLC’s Immigrant Justice Project. “This hurts workers in the United States as well as those who come here from other countries.”

  3. This is going on in Canada too.

    Immigrants being exploited. I see it on a weekly basis, where they get paid less, worked harder and are expected to work seven days a week.
    This keep the money in the pockets of the big guys.

    I don’t want to put blame on them either but it does take away jobs from Canadians. Our government is responsible for allowing this.

    The unions tend to overlook the situation until they are forced to.

  4. Hey, it has been a while. Sorry for not responding earlier. I have been really busy with work and school. Trying to cram both into my life and still stay afloat. How are things with you? I have not had a chance to read your post at the “Ask the Box”. I will try to get to it soon!
