“Cloud Cuckoo Land…Help! They’ve Escaped!”

I have heard of a conservative analogue to Wikipedia called Conservapedia.  Andrew Schlafly the son of the Eagle Forum president Phyllis Schafly created Conservapedia.  (Phyllis is one of the main reasons why the Ledbetter case of pay discrimination occurred as she was vehemently against the Equal Rights Amendment of the 1970’s)  Conservapedia exists because conservatives did not believe that Wikipedia entries were indicative of the “truth.”  The editors of Conservapedia bill their website as the “Trustworthy Encyclopedia.”  Really, trustworthy to whom, here is the entry for Barack Obama our 44th President:

Here is last weeks entry from Conservapedia  (All my comments will be in bold font)

Barack Hussein Obama II (allegedly born in Honolulu, August 4, 1961) served as a first-term Democratic Senator from Illinois 2004-2008… and then, along with his running mate Senator Joseph Biden, won the presidential election after twenty-three months of campaigning, raising an unprecedented $750 million and spending over $700 million of it, most of which came from anonymous donors. Post-election, Obama’s aides surprised some by indicating that he would make an unprecedented speech within his first 100 days from a Muslim capital. Obama will use his Muslim middle name when sworn into office. Elected by claiming he’s a Christian, Obama has since avoided attending church on Christmas and Sundays.”

This week the editors have attempted a more “scholarly approach.”

Barack Hussein Obama II is the 44th president of the United States, although questions remain over whether he was really born in Honolulu, Hawaii as he claims. August 4, 1961) served as a first-term Democratic Senator from Illinois 2004-2008… and with his running mate Senator Joseph Biden won the presidential election after 23 months of campaigning, raising an unprecedented $750 million and spending over $700 million of it, most of which came from anonymous donors. Post-election, Obama’s aides surprised some by indicating that he would make an unprecedented speech within his first 100 days from a Muslim capital. Obama used his Muslim middle name when sworn in as President, and chose not to use the Bible for his real, private oath. Elected by claiming he’s a Christian, Obama has since avoided attending church on Christmas and Sundays.

Obama refers to America in the third person, as a foreigner would. In his first television interview after becoming president, Obama declared that “all too often the United States starts by dictating.” Earlier, when Obama gave his acceptance speech, he said “We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America – I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there.”

Obama has espoused the socialist idea of “spreading the wealth,” in other words raising the tax rates on business and the wealthy to a burdensome level in order to redistribute their income to low income individuals, many of whom don’t currently pay income taxes. His health care plan forces employers to purchase health care or pay a fine and will force many into a poorly run single payer system. To announce his trip to Berlin in July 2008, Obama used posters which show a marked similarity to posters of Lenin. During Obama’s youth in Hawaii, he developed a strong, almost Father/Son relationship with Frank Marshall Davis, a known Communist.

Obama, on the campaign trail, stands with folded hands while Bill Richardson and Hillary Clinton honor the flag by placing their hands over their heart during the National Anthem. See Video

President Obama is the first person having ties to a known former terrorist to gain control over America’s nuclear weapons.  Author and blogger Jack Cashill requisitioned a comparison of the writing style of Bill Ayers’ 2001 memoir, Fugitive Days, with Barack Obama’s earlier 1995 book, Dreams From My Father, and came to the conclusion that Ayres may have ghostwritten Dreams. Ayers admitted that he was “guilty as hell” in planting bombs in the 1970s, and that he has no regrets and felt he “should have done more.”

Catholic Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver, where Obama received his Democratic Party nomination, criticized Obama as the “most committed” abortion-supporting candidate “since the Roe v. Wade abortion decision in 1973.Obama said “the first thing I’d do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.” That bill “would invalidate virtually all state and federal limitations on abortion, and would make partial-birth abortion legal again.”

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons observed that Obama uses techniques of mind control in his speeches and campaign symbols. One Obama speech declared, “a light will shine down from somewhere, it will light upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will say to yourself, ‘I have to vote for Barack.'”

Wow this is the truth, run for your lives everyone, who let these inhabitants of Cloud Cuckoo Land out of their fairy tale world.  It is a wonder that these people can manage to live in the here and now.  I have heard lesser tales from people who have been abducted by aliens.  Truth be known, those stories are far more believable.

The next subtitle “Obama will likely be the first Muslim President” is “substantiated” by no less than fifteen bulleted talking points such as:

How President Obama pronounces the word Pakistan, the fact that no one has witnessed a conversion to Christianity, since he was most certainly a Muslim from birth, and he has read works written by Newsweek’s  Fareed Zakaria (Note Mr. Zakaria is a well respected journalist in America.)

Here is the Wikipedia Entry:

Barack Hussein Obama II (pronounced /bər ɑːk hʊˈseɪn oʊˈbɑːmə/; born August 4, 1961) is the 44th and current President of the United States. He is the first African American to hold the office. Obama was the junior United States Senator from Illinois from 2005 until he resigned following his 2008 election to the presidency. He was inaugurated as President on January 20, 2009.

Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He worked as a community organizer in Chicago prior to earning his law degree, and practiced as a civil rights attorney in Chicago before serving three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. He also taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, Obama was elected to the Senate in November 2004. Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004.

As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, Obama helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. He also made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During the 110th Congress, he helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for U.S. military personnel returning from combat assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

So casting aspersions on the President of the United States is revealing the truth, Joseph McCarthy would be proud!

I have read the website in the past, and noted its satirical nature.  I watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report on Comedy Central with amusement. Now I have heard that a group of conservatives has formed a conservative analogue to The Onion.  Known as The Endive, this site is filled with some rather shameful attempts at humor.  Some of the articles are in the category of scat humor referring to the President’s defecation or the flatulence of female singer. Below is the mission statement of The :

Our Mission

The mission of The Endive is a simple one. Our mission is to give you a good, cheap laugh – usually at someone else’s expense. We have no shame, no one is safe, and we will not stop until you laugh (or get pissed).

But wait! There’s more to it than that! What’s the one common thread we see in all forms of entertainment, be it television or internet? It’s all pretty freaking liberal. As a matter of fact, the liberal slant on our TV shows and news programs is so entrenched that we take it for granted daily. Sure, lots of us are happy with that. Yay you. Lots of us are a little sick of it and watching Fox News 24/7 just doesn’t do it for us.

Sure, the overt liberal stuff we can all laugh at. If someone makes a joke that shows how obvious his or her feelings are, we’re allowed to disagree and laugh all the same. It’s the covert stuff that bothers us here at The Endive. Every day, stuff sneaks past us under the radar – assumptions, ideas, and half-truths – and we just assume it’s reality because TV said so.

That’s where The Endive comes in. We are a rare genetic mutation among human beings – conservatives with a sense of humor. We don’t dress in fancy suits and coif our hair like Mitt Romney. Heck, we don’t even have names like “Mitt” or “Newt,” but dammit, we’re funny.

So, to all my conservative brethren out there, enjoy The Endive! Have a guilt-free laugh on us and tell your friends how much fun you have visiting our site regularly. Forward the link to everyone you know. Show the world that conservatives can entertain!

And to all my liberal friends out there, enjoy The Endive! Have a guilt-ridden laugh on us. Feel free to get royally pissed off and tell all of your friends about the site that annoyed the living piss out of you. Make sure you include the URL in your emails and blog postings. Feel free to dedicate a rant to us on LiveJournal or YouTube. Make sure it’s entertaining and send us a link.

Peace, Love, and war when necessary,

The Endive Staff

Wait just a second now!  Amazingly, another group of conservatives has witnessed a liberal bias to another form of media.  These people are everywhere.  There is one big problem with the concept of asserting that there exists a bias.  If you or your organization happens to believe fervently in a particular frame of reference, (e.g., you are biased) then anything that contradicts your beliefs exhibits this bias.  However, in order to verify a bias one would need a neutral third party to evaluate your claim.  Moreover, there in lies, your problem since there can only be conservatives and liberals and a neutral party never exists in your worldview!  How else can one explain the moaning that there is a liberal bias and that those who contradict conservative ideology are liberals?

We can all easily ignore this rather obnoxious degrading material.  The part that is most disturbing is that the venerated National Review Online decided to refer to The Endive when Kevin D. Williamson placed this post in the Media Blog on the NRO website on January 27, 2009. Somewhere William F. Buckley is rolling over in his grave; it is not hard to imagine unquiet slumbers for one sleeper in that quiet earth.

  1. Michelle … thanks … simply thanks.

I stunned to be somewhere between disbelief and I don’ believe they’ve gone that far.

This is the radical right … so far right that they are left … the side of conservatism that givings moderate conservatives a bad name.

As I type … I’m remain numb that politcal intollerance has gone this far.

    Again … many thanks!

  2. Michelle … I’ve got to say this … for the past 2 hours since reading this, I’ve been somewhere between stewing and sulking. I continue to be amazed at the lengths someone will do to gain credibility through discrediting others. Sad … very sad.

Nothing against the post … it’s the content.

  3. There is no doubt that the research you do on the posts you publish is well beyond what most would be willing to invest. This particular post caught my eye as I had read about Conservapedia in a newspaper while I was in England for work.

Needless to say, I was eager to get home and look into this nonesense. It’s shocking to see how low the Republicans have stooped. Since I’m a regular reader I know that you, too, at one time were a Republican supporter.

I don’t know about you, but it’s embarrassing to realize I was once part of something that is so despicable. They need to do a complete turn around.

  4. Michelle,

Your blog was recommended to me by a co-worker. I must say that the things you write certainly make for some lively discussions. Thank you for including the links!

  5. A couple hours ago I received a comment from a man by the name of Dan. However, the comment contained far too much personal information. I had to heavily edit his remark. Unless an individual gives me permission…I will NOT publish something so identifiable. From reading his lenghty comment, I doubt he realized this. The edited version of his comment is below.

I’m 62 years old and have been a republican ever since I was old enough to vote. This post was disturbing to the point that for the first time since reading any blog I checked out the link provided.

I cannot believe that the party I love so much has sunk to this level. There’s no way I can continue to support such divisive tactics. This really is a new low.

  6. Well I’m not too surprised, but perhaps I’m bound by my own experiences with the Republican Party.

I just can not understand why moderate Republicans don’t speak out much louder and publicly against stuff like this. It doesn’t help their party’s image as being all that grand of a party, but just old.

Old ideas, old strategies and old methods.

Perhaps I should develop a site called liberapedia that reveals the truths about the deceptions found in conservapedia.

    Good posts.

  7. If I didn’t know better after reading the Conservapedia’s entry on President Obama, I’d think it was from the Onion’s website…a total joke. It truly is comical on one hand and disturbing on the other hand because they are brainwashing unintelligent people who do no research on their own. My own mother is not dumb, but she takes everything Fox News says as the gospel truth and never watches another channel for a differing opinion.

  8. The problem with The Endive, though, is that it’s just not funny. Tries way too hard and makes jokes that are too easy or, again, not funny. And don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of The Onion.

Endive just makes you squirm in its terribleness, and writing quality.
